Do you remember this catchy little song we used to sing as children. We would hold up our finger and wave it all around. Proclaiming that we were going to let our little light shine, let it shine, let it shine. Then we would announce where we were going to shine it and for each of us it was a different place. Maybe for some it was their home town or the location their church. For me it was a little town called Mercersburg , Pennsylvania. A town at that time only having one red light and a few little shops. I would sing with all my heart, ” This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine all over Mercersburg. Let it shine, let it shine.” The end of the song always allowed us to raise our voices and in a brethren church setting, this was quite exciting for us extroverts who needed to be heard. We would hold up our finger and with the other hand be ready to use it as a bushel to cover up the light. We would sing “Hide it under a bushel, “NO!”, we were going to let that little light shine. Then the final verse, ” Wont let Satan blow it out!” Now, this got fun as we would blow hard and as you can imagine spit was involved on many occasions. The thing about this little tune is that we forget as adults we still need to carry the words from this song with us today and act upon them daily. We should not be afraid to let our lights shine for others to see!
I’ve been in the business of making homemade soy candles lately to profit a book publication that God has called me to write. As I have learned this process and have poured and added scents to each candle, I’m excited to strike the match and see the flame ignite. The dance of the flame entrances me in the beauty that comes from one little flickering light. As, I pray over each candle God has shown me the power we hold within all of us to bring light to a dark world. If we each keep Christ shining in our lives, it will attract many of those who are lost to the beauty they see within us. We should be bold and pray all over our little towns for freedom from addictions and bondages that have so many entrapped. We must make sure that no bushel will hide our light from being effective in a dark world. If we each shouted with authority that Satan has no power to blow out our candles, he must run defeated.
Christ tells us in Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” The light exposes what is secret and together as we shine one candle at a time, we will be noticed from nation to nation by our bright attractive glow. Together, will you join me in keeping Christ love and hope for others shining from our lives? Lets attract those lost in the darkness of sin, addiction, brokenness and depression toward the light that will expose and heal each issue for ever! Lets, pray for our towns, cities and nation to be healed in Jesus name. Pray for marriages to be saved, hearts to turn back to their Maker and that a fire will be ignited within our hearts to share the Gospel.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray , and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal there land.
Take a moment and listen to this song! Amazing, impactful and powerful!
